Upcoming Meetings and Events

We have several meetings and events in the month of April for CDC parents, so please mark your calendars! On Wednesday, April 13th, 2011, we will be having our Transition to Pre-K and Transition to Kindergarten meetings. Transition to Pre-K will be held at 5:30 for parents of students who will be in the Pre-K room next year. Again, the social worker will answer questions and provide strategies for a successful transition from Pre-K to Kindergarten. During the meetings, children are invited to the First Presbyterian Church's Children's Easter Festival. Spring has Sprung!

It finally feels like spring and everyone here at the Center has been enjoying the sun and mild temperatures! We have been playing outside as much as possible and all the students are loving it. With more outside play, please be sure to dress your child appropriately- no flip flops or sandals without backs (tennis shoes are preferred), shorts under skirts or dresses, and layers. All of our classrooms can always use donations of baby wipes and tissues- the mulch is wonderful at protecting against injuries, but it does leave some dirt!
Our classes have been having a great time this month with their weekly themes. Everyone enjoyed St. Patrick's Day and the green surprises the leprechauns brought. The Twos' Room had a great time learning about the solar system with their outer space theme. They even got to sample astronaut ice cream and watch a video of a space shuttle blasting off! The Giraffes have been busy learning about how the month of March comes "in like a lion" and goes "out like a lamb" and finding "shapes, shapes, and more shapes" in the world around them. Dinosaurs abound in our Pre-K class and they are learning all about paleontologists, fossils, and the different species of dinosaurs.
Please mark your calendars: the Center will be CLOSED on Friday, April 22nd, 2011, in observance of Good Friday. This falls at the end of Kanawha County Schools' Spring Break. For our school-age students, Spring Break activities and field trips will be announced shortly!

A Busy Month!

February has started and it looks like it is going to be a busy month here at the Center! Please make sure to check your child's calendars carefully, because there are lots of important dates to remember this month!
For the two's room, Mrs. Tracey and Mrs. Sabrina have lots of activities scheduled! On February 3rd, please dress your child in red, as the class will be celebrating Chinese New Year. Friday, February 4th is the Super Bowl Party, so wear your team's colors and bring in your favorite football snack to share with the class. February 7th through 11th is Dental Health Week, with a visit from the dentist on Thursday, February 10th. The children will celebrate Valentine's Day on Monday, February 14th. Please bring in $3.00 for pizza and see the classroom door to sign up to bring something in. The rest of that week is going to be our "Messy Week"- please send your child in old clothes, because they may get stained or dirty! On all of these special days, please make sure that your child is here no later than 10:00 a.m. so that he or she will be able to participate in all the activities!

Like the Twos' Room, the Threes' also have a busy month planned! This class will also need to bring in a special snack and wear their team colors on Friday, February 3rd for the Super Bowl Party! Each child will need a shoe box by Tuesday, February 8th to decorate for a Valentine's Box. The dentist will also visit this room on Thursday, February 10th to celebrate Dental Health Week. Our sign-up sheet for the Valentine's Party is on our door, and our class list for Valentines is on the back of our monthly calendar we sent home. We will wrap up the month with Pajama Day on Friday, February 25th.

Pre-K will be starting off the month with a KCS Pre-K make-up day on Friday, February 4th. The next week will be Dental Health Week, with lots of learning about teeth and how to take care of them. The dentist will be stopping by on Thursday, February 10th. The Pre-K Valentine's Day party will be February 14th, so sign-up to bring something in on the sheet on the door. Pre-K kids will also need $1.00 on the 14th for their party. The theme for the rest of the week will be "Things We Love". From February 21st through 25th, the Pre-K class will be learning about manners! There will be NO KCS PRE-K on the following dates:
  • Friday, February 11th
  • Wednesday, February 16th
  • Friday, February 18th
  • Monday, February 21st
  • Friday, February 25th

The Pre-K class will be using empty tissue boxes or shoe boxes for their Valentines Boxes, so please bring in any that you might have around the house!

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

As part of the Center's housekeeping for 2011, we are going through each child's file to ensure that all documents required by licensing regulations are present. If we sent home a notice that your child is missing a form or document, please bring it in NO LATER than FRIDAY, JANUARY 21st, 2011. Again, these documents are required by state licensing regulations; we will be unable to provide care after Friday until we have the documents. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Also, some students may have had new emergency forms sent home for parents to fill out. We did this to ensure that all information is current. If you have an emergency form to fill out, please be sure to fill out ALL the blanks. We cannot accept forms that are missing information. Again, we appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Above all, the information you provide will enable us to provide the highest level of care for your child and have the appropriate information in case of an emergency.

We hope that everyone is having a great week! Our students are having a great time learning about the winter season and the weather it brings, as well as polar animals and how they live. Be sure to ask your child about the information they are learning!
